Smiths Heavy Haulage

Smiths Heavy Haulage

Background

Smiths Heavy Haulage which is a division of Smiths Mechanical Services Ltd. based at tower close, Bridgend. They specialise in transporting abnormal loads throughout the country.

Smiths had an ageing fleet within their Smiths Mechanical Services fleet which we had previously branded with just their company logo. Due to demand for transportation of heavy plant machinery, Smiths Heavy Haulage was born in 2012 and they purchased a brand new Volvo truck.

The Brief

With the need for a stronger presence on the roads, Smiths Heavy Haulage presented us with a doodle of what they wanted, which was inline with the attention grabbing Eddie Stobart Transport liveries that we all know.

The Idea

Our vehicle branding team took the doodle and transformed it into a real life working design with the black with grey watermark design and red trim that now adorns the Smiths fleet. Over the years the design has remained consistent but allowed for more coverage on the larger and more modern Scania lorry cabs that are now their flagship lorries.

A clear, memorable design applied consistently is crucial when building brand recognition.

Our Design Team had to do a thorough assessment of the vehicles before working on the designs of each to ensure the Smiths brand was applied correctly and consistently across all the new vehicles.

The Technical Stuff

The doodle was recreated into electronic format by our in-house designers and printed onto gloss laminated vehicle wrap that contours the wrap to the shape of the vehicle. The red chevrons were made from colour matched red vinyl and the red trim lines were shaped using Knifeless tape to match the curves of the vehicle.

To date we have wrapped their Fleet of:
• 4x Volvo Globetrotter lorries
• 4x Scania lorries
• 1x Mercedes Sprinter Escort vehicle
• 1x Ford Transit Escort Vehicle
• 1x Ford Transit Connect Service Vehicle
• 1x LandRover Defender Escort Vehicle

We’ve even branded their business premises signage, banners, roller banners and business cards to match the watermarked fleet design to maintain consistency.

Our large, purpose-built 2300sq ft indoor heated workshop for wrapping is able to accommodate the largest of transport vehicles.

The Final Result

The growing fleet has seen them win many coveted awards for best in show at national Truck Shows which we are proud to have created such a distinctive brand that cannot fail to be noticed.

Their lorries have also made the front covers of trade magazines.

Smiths were delighted with the ongoing project. Not only were we able to wrap all the vehicles with a consistent brand design using quality materials, but we were also able to meet the tight deadline.
